Divine Discoveries

The sudden revelation elicited a chaotic response as the crystal group surrounded Tempest. Their faces were stacked on top of each other, each cocking their brow or going wide-eyed as they looked upon Tempest’s face. However, it was the large, jolly man who made first contact.

“Father!” he said, picking up Tempest in his arms. He squeezed and kissed both of Tempest’s cheeks before setting him back down. “It’s so good to see you.”

Celestra, who already had eyes full of tears, was next. “Father!” she whimpered. She threw her arms around his neck and began crying into his shoulder.

Tempest hesitated, unsure of what to do, but wanted to comfort her. He wrapped his arms around her and patted her on the back. Ungroth spit on the ground before crossing his arms and turning away. The other two women were examining him up and down as he held Celestra.

She pulled her head away and wiped the wetness from her eyes. “Oh, look at me, dissolving into a little girl again,” she laughed. “I didn’t mean to soak you.”

Before Tempest could respond, the woman in the vine and wood dress shoved her way in front of Celestra. “Where have you been, Dad? It’s been eons since we’ve seen you. You see what Nysit has done to all of us, and only now you show up and try to act like you’re doing us a favor?”

“Don’t talk to Father that way, Feura,” Celestra said in a dissenting tone. “I’m sure Father has a good reason for everything, just like he always does.”

“Oh, give me a break, Celestra. You’re always taking his side no matter how often he throws you to the curb.”

“He’s our father, and he loves us!”

“Please, you two, please don’t fight,” the bald, portly man said. “I don’t like it when you two argue.”

“Ugh, I am so sick and tired of your constant optimism, Bothnan,” Feura said. “Sometimes we just need to be at each other’s throats.”

“Yeah, stay out of this,” Celestra added.

Tempest let out a nervous laugh and held up his hand, doing his best not to interrupt. “I think there may be some misunderstanding here.”

“And here come the excuses,” Feura said, crossing her arms and rolling her eyes.

“No, listen to what he has to say,” the woman in plate armor said. “I don’t think this is who we think it is.”

The group went silent and turned to look at Tempest. His jaw dropped as he connected the dots for each of the members' names. He raised his shaking finger as he pointed to the divine in front of him.

“Ungroth the God of War, Celestra the Goddess of Love, Feura the Goddess of the Elements, Bothnan the God of Trade, Septimus the God of Time is missing, so that would make you . . .”

“Yuria the Goddess of Justice,” the blonde woman with blue eyes said.

“You . . . you’re the gods and goddesses of Iðna.”

“Were . . .” Yuria said, waving her hand. “Now we’re nothing more than mortals with divine gifts.
